The Apple Valley Fire Protection District is excited to announce that out of closed session at the October 18, 2022 board meeting the Board of Directors announced that it was their honor to unanimously appoint Interim Fire Chief Peratt to the position of Apple Valley Fire Protection District Fire Chief.

Chief Peratt is a long-time resident of Apple Valley. He is a graduate of Apple Valley Middle School and Apple Valley High School. He started in the Fire Service in 1997 with the Apple Valley Fire Protection District as a volunteer Fire Inspector. He worked at several other agencies at the beginning of his career including San Bernardino County Fire, Fort Irwin Fire and the City of Victorville Fire. He returned to Apple Valley Fire in 2008 and has served in the ranks of Captain, Battalion Chief and now Fire Chief.

Chief Peratt’s love of the Apple Valley Community, fire service and the Fire District are evident in his daily work and interactions. This is an exciting time for the Fire District. Please join us in congratulating Chief Peratt!

The Apple Valley Fire District is having an open house at fire station 331! Come on by on October 22nd between 10am-2pm. There will be many exciting activities and demonstrations including a vehicle extrication demo, firefighter turnout races, dunking a firefighter, free hotdogs, a tour of the newly renovated fire station and Medic Truck 336 being on full display. Everyone is invited and we hope to see you there!

Members of the Victorville Professional Firefighters are presently en route to the Calf Canyon fire in New Mexico.

The Cal OES (Governor’s Office of Emergency Services) Strike team, ST6828C, deployed this morning and consists of agencies from Victorville, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Chino & Apple Valley fire departments.

Repost @hddailynews_ A fundraiser has been put together for the family of the late Barstow firefighter David Spink. Spink was severely injured by a car that hit him at freeway speeds on Interstate 15 while the fire department was responding to a call. Spink would later be put on life support and then pass at Loma Linda Hospital in January 2022.

The Apple Valley Professional Firefighters Association says The Swill will host the special fundraiser on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Donations are welcome and all proceeds from the night will go towards the Spink family.

Organizers say that there will also be live music, food provided by Oggi's as well as raffles and auctions.

#LODD @stocktonfirefighters Capt. Max Fortuna, 47, died this morning in the line of duty. Brother Fortuna was shot while responding to a dumpster fire in Stockton. A 67-year-old man has been detained in connection with the shooting. Rest in Peace, Brother.

Your A_V_Firefighter invite you to join us in supporting our AVFPD Fire Explorers. This weekend, starting Sunday the 14th at 1201 am, a fundraiser benefiting the Victor Valley’s explorer programs begins. The fundraiser was organized by Victorville Motors.

It’ll be a virtual Ride-and-Drive, meaning the links below and on the flier will take you to a web page with an intro video, then click a car to “test drive,” after the video there will be a short survey (with option to opt out of being contacted), and then a thank you video.

This is a no cost to you fundraiser.

Your Apple Valley Firefighters contributed and participated in the Ryan Cambridge Memorial Golf Tournament yesterday. Every year the PFA sponsors a hole and has 4 members play.

“The Ryan Cambridge Memorial Golf Tournament is designed to help High Desert Students achieve a higher education-based, on Ryan's belief that not every student will go to college. The money raised by this event provides a $20,000 four-year renewable grant to our local high schools, specifically for the vocational program with the most need.”

Your A_V_Firefighters on OES Brush Engine 6320 sent us this photo this morning. Apparently Guy Fieri and his foundation are in camp to cook for all of the firefighters. At least we know they are well fed. They have been assigned to the same Division for the past several operational periods. They are being reassigned today to a new, more active Division. They’re in good spirits and are looking forward to this new assignment.

Your AV Firefighters are still assigned to TF6210 at the MacFarland incident. This is day 19 for the assignment and day 5 for the new crew. They are on 24 hour shifts and are assigned to Div I/L for mop up and patrol. Stay safe!

Last night the Apple Valley Fire District recognized Engineer Landon D’Antonio, Engineer James Lyons and Firefighter Chad Baeskens with the Life saving award for their heroic efforts by saving a mans life in a commercial fire in Victorville this May. These men showed the courage and dedication it takes to be a firefighter. Great Job guys.

Your A_V_Firefighters on Brush Engine 334 continue to work hard on the McFarland Fire. Working 24hr shifts on the fire line. Two nights ago the fire had exploded and made a run towards a populated area. Brush Engine 334 in the middle of the night was reassigned to structure protection ahead of the fire. The Brush Engine shown here in front of the advancing fire sure made for an impressive photo. The fire ended up not moving into the populated area but sure got close. The current crew on Brush Engine 334 is due to swap out with a fresh crew tomorrow.

Your A_V_Firefighters on Brush Engine 334 continue to be assigned to the McFarland Fire. They are beginning another 24 hour operational period assigned to Division M/A/Z reinforcing control lines. They have been busy supporting the control objectives of the incident. All are well and in good spirits.

Your a_v_firefighters on OES Strike Team 6828C have been released from the Dixie fire and are heading home. 6828C spent a total of 20 days on the fire and should be home tomorrow.

Your a_v_firefighters on Brush Engine 334 were dispatched to the McFarland Fire in the Shasta/ Trinity National Forest on Wednesday 8/4 at 0600 hrs as part of Taskforce 6210.

Taskforce 6210 is made up of 5 Type 3 engines (brush engines) including Apple Valley, Morongo Valley, Running Springs, and San Manuel and a water tender from San Manuel. The task force team leader is from Big Bear. Their first day on the line was a 24 hour operational period yesterday. They started on Division A reinforcing a dozer line and mopping up 100’ in and at 0100 this morning they were reassigned to Division H on a more active flank.

Apple Valley now has two engine companies out on the Northern California fires and are still maintaining full staffing at home. Let’s keep our crews and all those on the fire lines in our thoughts and prayers.
